SHORTIES

SHORTIES – A Platform for Emerging Voices in Film SHORTIES is a hyper-feminist film platform dedicated to empowering emerging voices in genre and beyond. Founded by award-winning filmmaker Lois Tallulah, SHORTIES was built on the belief that women and underrepresented creatives don’t need to wait for permission or handouts — they can create their own momentum, their own networks, and their own opportunities. Through curated screenings, writers’ labs, and creative workshops, SHORTIES has become a vibrant community where new filmmakers are championed and future industry voices are born. Highlights include Scream Queens, a BFI-supported writers’ lab nurturing women in genre storytelling, and the RomCom Writers Lab, which encourages Northern talent to pen the next big romantic comedy hit. But at the heart of SHORTIES is more than just development — it’s community. What began as a few filmmakers connecting over shared frustrations has grown into a powerful London-based WhatsApp network of over 1,000 female and non-binary members, with growing hubs in Leeds and Bristol. This is a space where collaboration replaces competition, and support replaces isolation. In an industry that can often feel lonely, the SHORTIES community thrives on real-life connection — meetups, screenings, and late-night brainstorming sessions that remind us we’re not alone in this. We gather to showcase our short films, share ideas, and explore new ways to make projects happen — not by waiting for fearful commissioners to say yes, but by saying yes to each other. SHORTIES champions the belief that the industry’s beating heart doesn’t belong to the boardrooms — it lives in its community. Together, we’re proving that we don’t need to fit into existing systems to succeed. We can build our own table — one big enough for everyone. Fiercely feminist, unapologetically creative, and radically collaborative, SHORTIES is more than a platform — it’s a movement. Together, we’re rewriting the future of film from the ground up.
