FAQs
Find answers to our most frequently asked questions:
What is the goal of such events?
Surfing is about community and sharing the stoke. As much as it is conveniant and peaceful surfing alone, have you ever thought to yourself that you would like to share the stoke with a small group of fun people? This is the aim of AfterWave, connecting surfers in small groups 🌊
What surf level do I need to have?
Intermediate to Advanced. ------- Checklist: ✅ Have your own surfboard ✅ Can paddle out independently through the lineup ✅ Can catch green (unbroken) waves without assistance ✅ Can take off consistently and ride along the wave face ✅ Can control direction (go right or left) ✅ Understand surf etiquette and lineup rules ✅ Feel comfortable in crowds and moderate-size surf ✅ Can handle wipeouts and safely manage your board ✅ Understand rip currents --------- If you answered “Yes” to all of the above, you’re ready to join us! If not, we recommend joining surf lessons first, they’re super fun, and surf coaches will help you progress quickly 🤙
Where do we meet?
The meeting point will be shared via message or email after sign-up, it’s usually close to the main surf spot for that day. The exact peak/beach will be shared on the day of the event.
How long do the sessions last?
Sessions typically last around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on conditions.
What happens if the waves are bad?
We’ll always check the forecast and may reschedule if conditions are unsafe or completely flat. You’ll be notified in advance.
How many people are in each group?
Groups are intentionally small (usually 4–6 surfers) to keep things friendly, safe, and personal.
Can I come alone?
Absolutely! Most people do. It’s a great way to meet new surf buddies and connect with others who share your passion.
Is there a surf coach?
No — these are community surf meetups, not lessons. Everyone surfs together, supports each other, and shares the stoke! ----- These events are open to surfers who have their own board and can surf independently without assistance. Participants must be able to catch their own green waves and have sufficient skill to ensure their own safety in the water.
